Animal Reiki
WHAT is ANIMAL REIKI?
Reiki has great healing qualities that can be helpful to the body, mind and spirit of animals just as with humans. One big difference is that animals seem to have a natural understanding of Reiki even if they have never have received it. Certain animals can also be more sensitive than humans so it is important that the practitioner give the animal the choice of how/if they will receive Reiki.
I follow The Animal Reiki Code of Ethics as developed by Kathleen Prasad.
The Guiding Principles of The Animal Reiki Code of Ethics are:
- I believe animals are equal partners in the healing process.
- I honor animals as being not only my clients, but also my teachers in the journey of healing.
- I understand that all animals have physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects, to which Reiki can bring profound healing response.
- I believe that brining Reiki to the humans/animal relationship is transformational to the human view of the animal kingdom.
- I dedicate myself to the virtues of humility, integrity, compassion and gratitude in my Reiki practice.
I decided to learn animal Reiki when my eight year old Golden Retriever was showing signs of arthritis as well as stress. He began to gain weight as many senior dogs do when they get arthritis. Within one year of receiving Reiki, Sam, my Golden Retriever lost 21 pounds, takes half hour walks daily again, and was much more relaxed. His veterinarian could not believe how good he looked. People commented that he looked like a new dog! Years later, he continues to thrive. I understand how it feels when you want to help your animal when they are hurting. Reiki works wonderfully in conjunction with any treatment set up by your veterinarian.
